Euxton Villa's 6ft 6ins goalkeeper Ross Baxter could be named as as one of five substitutes for Chorley for tonight's Lancashire FA Co-operatives FA Trophy final.

Baxter, who signed for Chorley earlier this season, helped Euxton Villa to two trophy successes in the last nine days.

Villa beat Wigan Robin Park to lift the Lancashire Amateur Shield and he saved a penalty from ex-Magpie Chris Bennett, the striker in Monday's 2-0 Goldline Trophy triumph over Charnock Richard at the Reebok Stadium.

Magpies' skipper Martin Clark is hoping to make it third time lucky against his old club Southport tonight, having helped them win the trophy in 1997 and 2001.

Last time Chorley reached the final was in 1993 when they lost 5-2 after extra time - to Southport.

The Magpies were winners 50 years ago and again 25 years ago, the latter occasion at the expense of Horwich RMI, who were managed by Ken Wright, now Chorley chairman.

Tonight's final will be the club's 31st in this competition and they have won it a record 14 times, three with the help of right-back Peter Dunn, who has promised to be there tonight.

He met up with some of the older fans when he came to the semi-final against Burscough last month.
