With the spice provided by the return of manager Tony Hesketh to his former club, the Magpies and City served up a tasty ‘derby’ for an excellent crowd of 438.
Chorley matched the league leaders all the way until gifting City a soft deciding goal 10 minutes from time.
The division’s top scorer, ex-Magpie Jordan Connerton, had the first and last word but in between his goals the home side gave the Lancaster defence plenty to think about.
The match sprung in to life just before the break when Connerton headed City in to the lead. But Chorley piled on the pressure in the second half and were level on 67 minutes when Alex Porter directed a firm header beyond keeper Martin Fearon. Chorley looked the likelier winners but a moment’s loss of concentration in defence wrecked their hopes when Connerton’s header trickled in.
