CHORLEY manager Steve Waywell does not believe his side are favourites in tomorrow’s Lancashire derby clash at Rossendale United.
The Magpies dumped the Stags out of the FA Trophy in early October and the Dark Lane outfit are reeling off the back of two 4-0 thumpings, at Colwyn Bay and league leaders Lancaster City, within the space of four days.
But Waywell insists Rossy will be fired up when the two sides meet in UniBond Division One (North).
“We’ve had a couple of thumpings ourselves this season and it makes you even more determined to put things right,” said the Magpies boss.
“It gives you an extra edge. When you take a couple of beatings, you are desperate to make amends.
“We won at Rossendale in the FA Trophy quite comfortably earlier in the season. But this will be different.
"Three points are at stake and that is what we all play the game for. It’s going to be hard.
“Rossendale may be down there, but they beat Fylde in their last home game and that goes to show that they are a good side.”
Back-to-back wins over Harrogate Railway Athletic and Ossett Albion has pushed Chorley to within three points off a top eight spot.
And Waywell is looking to make it three in a row ahead of a hectic Christmas schedule.
“A couple of weeks ago, I said to the lads that the next three games, against Harrogate, Ossett and Rossendale, were very important,” he said.
“If we could win all three games, or pick up at least seven points, it would put us in good stead for the Christmas period.
“I would not say we’re in a fantastic position, more a decent position.
"But we can get into a fantastic position in the new year.”
