Chorley’s pre-season campaign ended with defeat by a Stockport under-21 side after coming back into the game with a spirited second-half rally.
The Magpies came back after trailing 2-0 at half-time, with a Danny Finch goal on 66 minutes and they came close in a couple of late scrambles.
Winger Danny Pilkington, who played a handful of games for the Magpies late last season, gave Stockport the lead in the 16th minute with a curling shot in the top corner and nine minutes later sent Zak Jones the wrong way with a penalty after being brought down by Chris Smalley.
Keeper Peter Collinge, who came on at the start of the second half, pulled off some fine timely saves and timely interceptions as County threatened to increase their lead.
The match started 15 minutes because of severe congestion on the M60 after a serious accident.
