CHORLEY FC boss Matt Jansen believes there is going to be plenty of drama in their last seven matches of the campaign.

The Magpies boss was disappointed that they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Harrogate Town.

He said: “There are going to be lots of ups and downs before the end of the season.

“But it is up to us to try to ensure there are more ups than downs and we should be safe in the play-offs.

“You cannot dwell on things as if you look backwards you get a sore neck.

“We have to look forward.”

Jansen admits the Magpies felt they should have could have got more out of the game.

“We started slowly and they were a little bit quicker and faster out of the blocks than we were.

“They took a 2-0 lead but for the majority of the first half and the latter stages of it, we were very much in the game and bossed it.

“In the second half I asked the players to lift it and they did and we were chasing but we had plenty of chances to get back onto level terms.

“For the want of a crossbar or the ball dropping to us or a bit more clinical finishing we could have come away with at least a point.”

There was some controversy over the award of the Harrogate’s penalty 13th minute penalty when Paul Jarvis was adjudged to have brought down Lewis Turner..

Jansen said: “He said he has not touched him and he made the most of it and the referee let a lot go and I thought the penalty was a little bit harsh.

“We came back into the game in the second half and controlled things better and we were unfortunate not to get something out of the game.

“I think Teaguey was blocked out of it a bit (for their second goal) and could not get close enough to him and the lad took the goal well.

“Harrogate are not a bad side and they have got some good players in the squad and we more than matched them and I thought we were the better team especially in the second half.”

Jansen was impressed with Jack Sampson’s effort and the rest of the team for getting back into the game.

He said: “Jack was fantastic along with Marcus (Carver) and when we brought on Robbie then we caused them some problems but it was just a little bit of clinical finishing, the bit of cleverness or the ball bouncing for us, that was missing.

“I cannot grumble about the effort or the attitude of the players and we just have to pick ourselves up and go again.

We can be disappointed with the result for 24 hours but they put in a great effort.

“There are still lots of winnable games in front of us and there is a lot to do between now and the end of the season but I think we will be strong enough to do it (get in the play-offs)."
