CHORLEY FC rounded their pre-season off with a 2-1 victory against local rivals Bamber Bridge.

Sefton Gonzales and Dale Whitham had chances in the first half, while goalkeeper Sam Ashton was largely a by-stander at the other end.

In the second half, the Magpies started the stronger and were in control for the majority of the half.

They broke the deadlock on 47 minutes when striker Marcus Carver finished superbly, curling in beyond home keeper Marcus Burgess after excellent approach from Gonzalez.

They doubled their lead five minutes later when Adam Blakeman’s cross was expertly dispatched by Gonzales for his sixth goal of the summer.

Former Magpies star Tom Williams reduced the arrears with 11 minutes on the clock, heading in from close range but that was as good as it got for Bamber Bridge.

Jansen said: "We beat Bolton 6-1 where we put up a fantastic performance but against Bamber Bridge we had a disappointing first half and changed things around and then played better.

"In terms of our pre-season, even in the games when we have not got good results we have still put on strong displays and created chances.

"Pre-season has given me the chance to look at formation and tried to see what works and what doesn't.

"We have a good squad and you need a squad not just focussing on your 11 to start the season.

"Some of them will be needed throughout the year."
