CHORLEY claimed their first point of the season in a thrilling encounter at Corby Town.

The Magpies put in a much-improved display in Northamptonshire as Matt Jansen’s side bounced back from successive defeats to get their campaign up and running with a 2-2 draw.

Midfielder Andy Bond, 29, went straight into the starting line-up having signed in the week following his release by League Two side Stevenage and he clearly made a difference to Jansen’s outfit.

The Magpies could have been in front inside the opening minute but Darren Stephenson fired over when he was presented with a glorious chance in front of goal.

It was Chorley who had started the better of the two sides as they looked to put Tuesday’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of North Ferriby United behind them.

After James Dean had chipped both the goalkeeper and the bar, it was Dale Whitham who broke the deadlock on 24 minutes, as he bundled the ball home from Stephenson’s cross.

The advantage lasted just two minutes though before Corby levelled, with Ashley Sammons finding the top corner after he was played through by Kabongo Tshimanga.

And Sammons put the Steelmen in front eight minutes later as he lashed home a stunning free kick which gave Sam Ashton no chance in the Chorley goal.

But the Magpies showed resilience and character that perhaps had been lacking so far this season as they fought back to level before half-time.

Whitham scuffed his shot but Josh Hine was on hand inside the box to head home and restore parity.

Stephenson was continuing to threaten in the second half but Paul Walker in the Corby goal was equal to his efforts.

Walker then produced a fine save to deny Roscoe before Whitham fired over.

Both sides were happy with a point, and Chorley will look to continue their revival at home to FC United on Tuesday.
