Saturday non-league preview: Magpies set to renew title tilt

Chorley Citizen: Garry Flitcroft Garry Flitcroft

GIANT-killers Chorley resume their title charge at home to Buxton tomorrow.

The magnificent Magpies go into the game on the back of a memorable midweek FA Trophy success at moneybags Skrill Premier outfit Forest Green Rovers.

Chorley sealed their place in the last 16 with a sensational penalty shoot-out success – and in doing so took their winnings in non-league’s premier cup competition up to a staggering £20,950.

But it is back to Evo-Stik League Premier Division business tomorrow and proud Magpies manager Garry Flitcroft is determined to see his side continue their winning ways with victory over play-off hopefuls Buxton.

Second-placed Chorley are two points behind Skelmersdale United.

They do, however, have three games in hand on the pacesetters.

Flitcroft said: “The lads were superb on Tuesday. I’m so proud of them and they’ve done the club proud.

“The negative is missing league games. We’ve got three games in hand on Skem and two on Fylde and that’s good for us.

“We know where we want to be at the end of the season and at the moment the games can’t come quick enough.”

Ramsbottom United travel to play-off rivals Bamber Bridge tomorrow looking to stretch their superb Evo-Stik League First Division North unbeaten run to 13 matches.

Padiham will be hot favourites to make it three wins on the spin when they entertain basement boys Ossett Albion.

Clitheroe are away to Cammell Laird.

Colne are at home to table-topping Runcorn Town in the North West Counties League Premier Division tomorrow.

Victory could move Colne within seven points of pole position with games in hand.

Second-from-bottom Bacup & Rossendale Borough face a crucial clash at third-from-bottom Squires Gate.

Barnoldswick Town also hit the road. They are away to West Didsbury & Chorlton.

First Division leaders Nelson – in confident mood after five straight league victories – are at home to Formby.

AFC Darwen host Chadderton at the WEC Anchor Ground.
