CHORLEY completed their perfect weekend in the Northern Premier League as they beat Carnforth on Sunday to hold on to fourth place in the table.

A double winning weekend has left Andy Holdsworth’s men sitting pretty and are 31 points behind leaders St Annes.

Opener Jack Catterall hit 56 to help Chorley beat Carnforth by five wickets with Holdsworth (35) and Iain Critchley (24) offering good support as the locals eased to victory.

Earlier Carnforth made 156-8 with Chorley paid man Gaurav Dhar taking 3-41.

But it was a bad day for Darwen as they were beaten by reigning champions Leyland at Fox Lane.

It was tough for the Towers as soon as Luis Reece (93) and Henry Thompson (70) posted 154 for Leyland’s first wicket and provided the impetus for a declaration on 257-4 Darwen made a poor start, losing their first three wickets with just two runs on the board.

John Cordingley made a fluent 43 off 35 balls until he was adjudged lbw as Darwen subsided to 100-7.

But Gareth Cordingley hit an unbeaten 79 off 98 balls and Sam Chatburn-Jones and Chris Wade helped him make life anxious for Leyland and 19 balls remained when Wade was leg before to Pelser as Darwen finished 185 all out.
