LEYLAND take an 11-point lead into the penultimate round of games in the Northern Premier Cricket League – but Darwen and Chorley could still have a say in the title race.
David Makinson’s Leyland have 246 points and play at Preston tomorrow before hosting Darwen in the final game.
Barrow have 235 points and play at Chorley tomorrow before finishing their most successful season since joining the Northern League with a home game against Preston.
Barrow’s dramatic 10-run win over Leyland on Monday left the title race wide open.
With 15 points available for a win batting first and 12 points for a win batting second the toss and tactics will come into the equation.
St Annes (220pts) and Darwen (205pts) complete the top four with Blackpool (183pts) fifth.
Darwen pro Mohammad Zaman Khan leads the race for 1,000 runs.
He has scored 953 at an average of 50.16 and will look to hit the magical four figures to celebrate signing a new contract for next season.
In the race for the bowling award Kendal’s Chris Miller has taken 58 wickets and leads Lancaster’s Ben Simm by six.
Darwen’s Kamran Anwar has also achieved 50 wickets, a superb effort by the talented teenage all-rounder.
