Northern League Saturday preview

DARWEN look to recover from the disappointment of their Furness BS Cup semi-final defeat to Netherfield when they entertain high-flying Barrow at Birch Hall.

The locals, who have suffered a league disappointing campaign, went so close to the showpiece final only to miss out when they were beaten by the Cumbrians last Sunday.

But they go into the Northern League clash boosted by last Saturday’s win over Leyland, a win that lifted them out of the bottom two.

It was Darwen’s first success in five games but they face a stiff test against a Barrow outfit who make the long journey high on confidence and riding high in the league with professional Pasane Wanasinghe in fine form with the bat and sitting proud at the top of the averages.

Chorley are in joint third place but only have four games to play and face a Windsor Park meeting with Netherfield tomorrow.

Chorley are boosted by the return to the side of professional Chris Hartley, who missed out last weekend due to playing for the Australians as they warmed up for the final Test.
