It was gold yet again for club coach and International race walker John Payn as he took first Vet 80 in the British Masters 5K at Horwich clocking

37:21 to finish well ahead of younger competitors. Not to be outdone Vet 50 Phil McCullagh finished in a faster time of 34 minutes to claim silver I his agae group. Jim Munn (vet80) finished in a creditable 41:46.

The annual rain and windswept Great Hill Fell race was 'enjoyed' by the Chorley ladies, as Lynne Clough finished first woman back, and with club mates Laura Murphy and Jacqueline Redmayne took the ladies team prize too, with Christine Sweatman running well bring the team home.

Joe Greenwood from Lytham (he trains on sand dunes) was the first back, but only 8 secs in front of Chorley's Michael Hancock. John Horrocks and Mark Ellithorn finished 7th and 8th, helping to take a magnificent team prize ahead of Red Rose Runners and Horwich. Not far behind them was Keith Johnson, Phil Iddon, Martin Quinn, Warren Crook and Dave Kershaw.

Next back were Michael Hendry, Richard Farron, David Miller, Andrew Lowe and Car Prince. Paul Jackson, running his second fell race of the day, was 71st, followed by super vets; V75 John Swift, V65 Les Paul and V70 Mike Coppin.

weather.
