Chorley’s preparations for the derby were hit hard as they suffered a chastening defeat at in-form St Annes.

Stuart Naden (32) and Will Moulton (37) were the key men as the locals posted 163-7 from their 50 overs at Vernon Road with Matthew Grindley claiming three wickets.

That was a decent score but St Annes made light work of the chase from the off and skipper Andy Kellett led from the front with 36.

Lukman Vahaluwala also made 36 and when nerves could have set in Nathan Bolus settled the game with a classy 53 not out as St Annes strolled to victory.
