Chorley fighter Michael Jennings’s dream match with Miguel Cotto is now expected to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on February 21.

The fight for the vacant WBO welterweight title had originally been earmarked for Valentine’s Day but is now likely to be held a week later in the arena where Joe Calzaghe beat Roy Jones Jnr last month, although Atlantic City in New Jersey remains an alternative venue.

Puerto Rican boxer Cotto - one of the biggest names in the sport and previously linked with a fight against Oscar de la Hoya - is reported to be receiving $3m for the fight against Jennings, who currently holds the WBU title and is third in the WBO rankings.
