WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings says he's hoping for a crack at a major title by the end of the year.

The 30-year-old Chorley fighter, who racked up his 33rd career win with a victory over Georgian George Ungiadze earlier in the month in an eight-round bout, is hoping to either make the second defence of his WBU crown or challenge Jackson Osei Bonsu for his European title.

But Jennings is eyeing a crack at the WBO version of the title, who rank him at number three, at the end of the year.

He said: "I've always said I would fight anybody and now I'm hoping to get a shot at the WBO title and really announce myself as one of the best fighters in this division.

"I know Carlos Quintana (champion) and Paul Williams are having a re-match in the summer, but I'm hoping that I might get a chance to fight the winner.

"At this stage of my career, I'm ready for the big fights, and I feel I'm ready to test myself against the best fighters.

"I'd fight anyone, anywhere, and I'm just hoping now that I can get the fights I deserve.

"A lot of British fighters like Clinton Woods, Carl Froch and Gary Lockett are getting the chance to fight for the big titles so I hope I get my shot."

But, in the mean time, Jennings is preparing for his next bout, which will probably take place on the undercard of Amir Khan's next fight.

The fight is expected to take place at the Liverpool Echo arena, and Jennings is hoping to get a big name.

He added: "I've been promised a good opponent and I'm hoping that's what I get.

"I'm confident I can beat anyone on the domestic scene so they can put me in against anyone. I just want to get the big fights now."
