Former Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown says that having WBU boxing champion Michael Jennings walking to out to the ring to sound of his solo track Golden Gaze was "one of the proudest things to have ever happened to him."
The song, from Ian Brown's Golden Greats album, rang out as the Jennings made his way to the ring at the ExCel Arena in London for his triumphant welterweight title defence against Ross Minter.
Brown told the setantasports.com: "It's probably one of the proudest things that have ever happened to me.
"I'm super proud of the lad. I met him when he was fighting for the British title and he said he'd be a world champion and I believed him.
"Four years later here he is defending it."
"I met the lad and he said he trained to my music. I used to say to the lads back in the day, to the Roses, that if you get a fighter training to you, you've got a groove, because all the great fighters train to great music."
Brown is a great admirer of Jennings and he invited the boxer on stage at a concert in Preston last year.
