WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings is urging promoter Frank Warren to get him the big fights.

Jennings showed his undoubted class as he stopped Ross Minter at the end of the ninth round at London's Excel Arena on Saturday night.

It was Jennings' first defence of his WBU crown, and with the Chorley fighter expected to get back into the ring at the Bolton Arena on April 5, the champion is hoping to be kept busy this year.

He said: "Beating Minter was a big win for me. It showed everyone that I can punch as well as box, and if I can get on a bill in April then they would keep me buzzing.

"If the show goes ahead on April 5, that's only about nine weeks away and that means I could keep ticking over in the gym and go into the next fight sharp.

"There may have been a bit of rustiness against Minter but if I can keep busy and keep getting decent fights then that would suit me.

"I'm just waiting to hear from my promoters where, when and who I'll be fighting and then I can take it from there.

"I haven't had as many fights as I would have liked in the past couple of years so this year I want to be busy and really make my mark."

Some pundits have suggested that Jennings is set to face the winner of the Kevin McIntyre v Kevin Anderson re-match for the British title - a title that Jennings won and defended before losing to Young Muttley in January 2006.

But Jennings is looking towards the European and possibly WBO version of the world title, which ranks the Chorley champion at number three.

He added: "It would be nice to win the British title outright because it is a prestigious belt.

"But I get paid more to defend the WBU and, at the end of the day, it's my job to pay the bills."
