The 27th running of the classic Through the Villages at Wheelton, held over a tough, hilly 8.45 miles was won in emphatic style by Bolton Harrier, Anthony Valentine.

Clocking 46 mins 45 seconds he was 2 minutes ahead of second place and former winner Vet 50 Paul Muller of Horwich.

Much improved Blackburn Harrier John Sutton finished an impressive 3rd with Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde junior Luke Berry 4th in just over the 50 minute mark.

First female was Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde's Gemma Unsworth finishing in closely followed by Astley and Tyldesley's Maria Lowe 20 seconds adrift with Blackburn Harriers Rachel Wood third.

In the team race the Wesham trio of Barry Norman, Lee Barlow and Steve Myerscough prevailed to score 37 points, with Chorley Harriers 2nd team and Belle Vue Racers 3rd.

The male vet team race was dominated by Horwich with Paul Muller, Sean McMyler and Steve Nolan completely outclassing their rivals.

Wigan Phoenix took 2nd Vet team with Chorley AC's trio of Mike Chalfont, Dave Kershaw and Paul Clyne in 3rd place.

The women's open team prize went to Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde's trio of Gemma Unsworth, Stasia Bligh and Carolyn Robbins.

Of the 281 entries over half the top placed 20 finishers were in the veteran category.
