Fell race success for Chorley junior

EIGHT members of Chorley Athletics Club contested the last Harrock Hill fell race of the year.

Fifteen-year-old Adam Sciacca won the junior competition and finished in 10th position overall and he won a well deserved prize of a tray of fruit and vegetables.

Simon Townsend was next in 53rd place well in front of a hard fought group of Jonathon Betts, Henry Minorczyk and Marco Sciacca in 112th, 113th and 114th respectively.

Phil McCullagh (153rd) lead home the final band desperately trying to finish before darkness came with Les Paul (165th) with a severe gash on his knee from a fall and Mike Coppin (166th).

Chorley finished ninth in the team competition, while Henry was fourth in the over 60s.

This week sees the Inter-Club race at Worden Park on Wednesday, with the Blackpool Illuminations 10k or 5k on Saturday and the Hades Hill 5k at Whitworth next Thursday before the final Inter-Club race of the year on Saturday September 11.

The second Chorley Charity Challenge, organised on behalf of the mayor's charities takes place on Sunday September 19 for teams of 4 (non UKA/ARC teams only).

Entry forms can be had from Chorley Borough Council or Sweatshop, Chorley with downloadable forms from www.chorleyac.org.

The closing date for entries is September 14.
