Chorley Harriers had to abandon their popular night series races around Astley Village for safety reasons so re-organised the series on a different route in Astley Park.

The winner was Antony Valentine from Bolton with a time of 23.05 and the ladies race was won by Lisa Heys from Horwich RMI Harriers in 27.39.

Dave Biddulph was first home for the Chorley club in 27.58 and was pushed all the way by Phil Iddon 28.05.

Paul Jackson took it easy on the first lap but pushed hard on the second to record 29.54 Liam Boardman recorded 30.46 just a few days after competing in the London Marathon and James Mathews set off far too fast and looked exhausted at the finish taking 31.00 minutes to get around.

Dawn Atkins, running again after a long lay off clocked 33.29 closely followed by Vicky Davidson 33.31.

Blind runner Mike Ogle, ably guided by Martin Quinn found the line in 35.19 and Marie Claire Darcy-Barron found the line in 40.43.

Six Chorley Harriers took on the formidable Buttermere Sailbeck fell race.

Nine and a half miles in distance and almost seven thousand feet of climbing testing the strength of all the athletes who took part.

Malc Christie was delighted with his run only two seconds slower then his previous best for the course 1.50.42 and beating Adam Critchley by six seconds.

Lynne Clough is another Harrier who runs consistently well.

Clough was third lady to finish and 1st in her age category taking 2.04.40 to complete the course. Paul Jackson was next from the Chorley contingent to finish 2.10.40 while Niki Rushton and Graham Schofield battled to the line, Schofield taking the honours with 2.16.51 and Rushton just five seconds behind.

Belmont Winter Hill fell race saw four entries from Chorley Harriers David Williams finishing 45th in 42.30 and Dawn Atkins taking the third lady spot in 46.38. Dan Edwards completed the course in 46.54 and a rare appearance by Libby Bright saw her complete in just a few seconds over the hour.

The Chorley club also had some very good results in the junior race. The winner in the U12 Boys was Dan Whitlock in 13.48 and the U 12 Girls race was won by Bethany Blackwell in 15.50 with Rebecca Broome getting third in 17.54.

In the U14 girls race Molly Broome emulated her sister and also swept into third place while Sophie Broome got fourth place in the U 16 Girls.

Another first place was taken by Ryan Downs In the U 16 Boys 22.26 and Mark Brown pushed him hard all the way to come 2nd 22.47.

Just the week before Dan Whitlock was first junior in the Rosemere 5K race in Preston taking 30th place overall, taking a mere 20.06 for the run.

Two Harriers preferred to do the Wray Caton Moor fell race David William and Martin Clough pushed each other along with David eventually getting the bragging rights. Times were 56.07 and 56.54.
