Raby shows way in fell race


Eight Chorley Harriers were among the almost six hundred runners who took part in the Auld Lang Syne Fell race in temperatures of minus five degrees and freezing fog.

Dominic Raby showed the way finishing 23rd overall with a time of 45.03. He was closely followed by Mark Ellithorn 46.26. Lynn Clough had an outstanding run taking 53.31 to cover the course. Paul Jackson came next 57.53 then Nicola Raby 60.10. Jan Atkins took 66.47 with Marie Dewhurst getting 69.29 bettering Janet Chaplin by 45 seconds.

A trio of ladies from Chorley Harriers took part in the 5.8k Hot Toddy Road. Jan Atkins was first of the three in 46.52 and was 1st LV60. Janet Chaplin took 47.48 and Marie Dewhurst 48.35 to cover the distance.

Four Chorley Harriers tackled the Ovendon Fell Race, a race of approximately eight miles taking in 1,200 of climbing. The ground was frozen hard and it made for tough going. Lynn Clough was the first Harrier to finish in 36th place taking 67.11 to cover the ground with Andy Clough taking 73.22. Marie Dewhirst took 89.12 and Janet Chaplin 91.54.

Garry Platt was the sole representative for Choley Harriers in the Joe Salt Multi Terrain race. The Chorley postman was pleased to be in the top thirty but was disappointed not to break the thirty minute barrier missing out by just one second.
