Fine run for Chorley Harrier girl Blackwell


Chorley Harriers stalwarts turned out to represent their club in the third race in the Mid Lanc’s Cross Country League got under way at Blackpool.

In the Under 11 Girls race Bethany Blackwell again had a fine run finishing in eighth place and Meghan Adamson also ran well for 20th position.

Dan Whitlock was the only Harrier in the under 13 boys and found the finish in 28th place.

Once again in the under 15 boys Mark Brown was the only representative but a gutsy run brought him home to 30th place.

In the under 17s men's race Ryan Davis looked good to gain 16th place and James Shuttleworth got 23rd.

Only two of the Harriers' ladies turned up for the senior race.

Lisa Johnston beginning to show form again after a lengthy lay off grabbed 37th place and Julie Lundrigan pushed herself into the top fifty exactly.

The senior men fared slightly better and managed to field a team.

Keith Johnston ran to an excellent 13th place closely followed by Mark Ellithorn 19th and also second in the V40 category.

Phil Iddon got 54th place. There was no morning race this week so he had to settle for just the one race!

Paul Jackson would not have run had there been another team member.

On antibiotics for blood poisoning he pushed himself to 107th position. Graham Schofield got 122nd place and John McDonald was 150th.

The annual Longridge 7 mile race took place with 241 people completing a tough course.

The winner Scott Monk took 50.28 minutes to cover the distance and the final finisher took 83 minutes. John Tuson was the first home for Chorley Harriers in 52.47. Dan Edwards was surprised by the hilly terrain but recorded a good 55.40. Dave Hargreaves also had a good run now in the V55 class he secured 56.05 John McDonald was also pleased with his run of 60.19. Yvonne Johnson was happy to get 66.20.

But her husband Roger was dismayed with 68,07. Lack of training making him seven minutes slower than the previous year.
