Johnson first Chorley Harrier in cross country


Chorley Harriers' senior men had a good turn out at the Mid Lancs cross country meeting in Burnley’s Townley Park.

Keith Johnson led them home in 36th place with Mark Ellithorn not too far adrift of him in 42nd place.

Russel Barron was third home for the club in 73rd position supported by Paul Mason 114th Phil Iddon 119th Paul Jackson 131st Dave Hearne 144th Andrew Clough 196th David Williams 200th and Graham Schofield 215th.

Numbers were slightly down in other categories but those who did turn up aquitted themselves well. In the under eleven girls race Bethany Blackwell had a fine race, running strongly to finish in twelfth place and was robed of at least six places by a severe stitch.

Molly Broome grabbed a 28th place in the under 15 girls race and Alice Alcockwas 18th in the under 17 ladies.

In the under 17 mens race Ryan Downs Sam Entwisle and James Shuttleworth packed well in 31 33 and 41st places. In the under 15 boys Mark Brown was the sole representative for the Harriers but ran for a solid 38th place.

The senior ladies were also depleted Chorley did have a new name to contend with.

Marie Claire Darcy-Barron ran for the first time in the black and white stripes and enjoyed her outing finishing 131st. nearer the front Lynne Clough was pushed hard by Jackie Redmayne.

They finished 9th and 11th overall and were 3rd and fourth vet 35.

They were assisted by Niki Rushton who was 75th to finish 22nd vet 35 And were the third vet 35 team.

Jackie Redmayne had just returned from a holliday in Palma where she entered the local half-marathon. Running in temperatures of 30c Jackie completed the race in 1-33- 33 and was third lady overall.

There was also a 10k race and Pam Clarkson was pleased to complete the course in the heat and took 1-00-09.
