Minorczyk magnificent for Chorley AC

Chorley AC turned out a team of 13 senior athletes to contest their newly promoted status in the first Mid-Lancashire Cross Country fixture of the new season at Townley Park, Burnley.

With nearly 300 runners, AC were able to have two teams overall (24th & 26th), vet40 (20th & 25th), vet50 (12th & 15th) and a magnificent second in the vet60's (Henry Minorczyk, John Swift and Eddie Murray) who were the heroes of the day.

Earlier Luke Betts continued his fine form in the U15s with the best individual CAC performance coming 10th (15:57) backed up superbly by Ryan Sciacca 21st (17:00). Tom Booth 39th (30:54) in the U17s had a reasonably solid run, but not what he is capable of.

After Paul Bass's great Throough the Villages race last weekend he had revenge extracted by Paul Wareing 147th (43:57) and Simon Townsend 162nd (44:51) finishing 176th (45:33).

David Taylor continues his comeback in 212th (48:13) ahead of new comer Jim Cosgrove 222nd (49:32).

The vet led by Barry Chester 242nd (52:48) had Henry Minorczyk 243rd (52:54) breathing down his neck as did John Swift 248th (53:31) from Jonathan Betts 250th (53:46) and Phil McCullagh 254th (55:04).

Stuart Swann 263rd (59:18) led home Eddie Murray 264th (59:34) and Les Paul 266th (64:41) packing well to achieve B Team status.

The best individually placed senior was Henry Minorczyk in 11th vet 60 place.

The next cross country is the Red Rose League next Saturday at Bolton's Leverhulme Park followed the week after by a new course in the first of the SE Lancs. XCs at East Cheshire's Clayton Vale.'
