International race walker and chief coach John Payn took part in the Barnard Trophy at Macclesfield.

Held over a 10k undulating course, John finished in a personal best of 71 mins 38 secs and took the first vet 70 and 75s title beating many a younger competitor, At the Preston Park run Jason Riley finished in 23:07 whilst further afield in the same series but at Workington John Hurley finished in 31:32.

On a tough short course over 2.3 miles, with some steep hills on a pleasant trail 55 teams turned out for the Witton Country Park, Blackburn, relays.

Despite persistent rain Chorley fielded four teams: two men's and two ladies', three runners to a team.

The outstanding performance of the day was by the Chorley ladies C team of Marie Boyle, Alison Parkinson and Anna Maria Crabtree with an excellent team run to secure 1st Vets team in 1:06:53.

Chorley's Men's A team of Calum Cant, Ainsley Murphy and Martin Quinn finished 12th in 53:25, with the Men's B team of Paul Wareing, Bill Beckett and Dave Parkinson placing 4th Vets team in 56:44.

Meanwhile the club's Ladies A team of Lynne Clough, Tash Fellowes and Dawn Atkins finished a superb third in 57:30.
