International pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale limped away from the European Team Championships at Gateshead after failing to record a height.

In a repetition of her London 2012 troubles, Bleasdale, in windy conditions, failed three times at her opening height of 4.25m.

The Euxton athlete has cleared 4.60m this year.

The 22-year-old later said that achilles and back problems had almost caused her to withdraw from the championships.

She will be hoping to bounce back to the form which saw her win the British Indoor title in Sheffield and gold at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg earlier this year.
