On an ideal afternoon at Brinscall, the 45th Great Hill Fell Race took place.

Just over 9.3kms with 480metres of ascent and run in generally cool conditions saw Chorley's Dominic Raby produce a masterclass in tactical awareness to claim victory by 13 seconds from Juras Gavura.

Both had been led to the summit by Rossendale's Gareth Jackson, all three finishing in under 38 mins.

But it was the tactical skill of Raby which won him the day with his fast down hill run and his fast uphill to the long run into the finish.

Host club Chorley also had 5th placed Mike Chalfont (Vet40), Bill Beckett (Vet40) and Paul Jackson (Vet40) in the top 20.

Not surprisingly given the packing by the Chorley team they claimed the overall team prize (22pts) with Chalfont and Beckett backing up the superb Raby run.
