On a lovely evening but with a bitter wind, the first Harrock Hill race of the year saw 14 Chorley athletes compete.

Calum Cant had a superb run to finish eighth closely followed by Joseph Allman, Hassan Khattab and Paul Jackson. Paul Wareing led home two fast finishers Gary Platt and Martin Quinn. Rachael Gibson was the only club female on this occasion finishing 58th lady, leaving Vet 70 John Minton, Tom Hilton and Mike Coppin in her wake. In the Northern Vets Track and Field Championships club stalwarts John Wright and Rick Cordwell produced scintillating performances.

John picked up silvers in both the 100m and 200m.

Meanwhile Rick matched him all the way in collecting silverware with silver for the two sprints and adding a couple of golds in the long and triple jumps.

Rick produced a performance of the meet to record a championship record in the long jump.

The next club organised race in the Astley Park Trail Series for both seniors and juniors is on Wednesday, June 5.

The final two races are on July 3 and August 7.

The Great Hill Fell Race is on Saturday, August 15, at Brinscall.
