A typical summers day of rain greeted Chorley competitors at the second Mid Lancs Track and Field event in Preston.

Newcomers Phil Bloch and Ben Evans led the way by scoring a fourth in high jump and first in discus respectively.

Senior Andrew Ramsey took second place in his 100m heat, backed up by Rick Cordwell who took third in his heat.

Rick also took third in his 200m heat, supported by John Wright in fourth. Ryan Sciacca had a useful 800m, finishing fifth.

U15 girls led the Chorley ladies team, with sprinter Georgia Martin running times of 13.9 and 28.3 in the 100m and 200m respectively, and Holly Brooks throwing 5.84, 13.69 and 12.55 in shot, discus and javelin.

International race walker John Payn contested the Allen trophy 15-mile walking event from St Peter’s (5 laps around Heapey) and took it leisurely to finish seventh in 3hrs 15mins.

The weeks ahead see the first Harrock Hill race tonight (May 22) at Parbold, followed by the Lancs T&F Champs at Blackpool over the Bank Holiday weekend with the Hutton Roof fell race on Saturday.

The next club races are the Astley Trail Series on Wednesday, June 5 in Astley Park.

On Saturday, June 15 the club organised Great Hill Fell race at Brinscall takes place as part of the Brinscall Festival.
