Veteran John takes two victories

International race walker and senior coach, John Payn, undertook the tortuous Macclesfield 10K in sunny but very chilly conditions.

John swept to victory on this notoriously hilly course claiming both the vet 70 as well as vet 75 title in 71:23 mins. John’s protégé Richard Robb outpaced his mentor to finish 10th in 71:05 Another fine day greeted the runners from Chorley at the first Mid Lancs league cross country meeting in Burnley.

The sun shone and the wind and rain stayed away so conditions were as near perfect as possible.

Again there was a good turn out in the under 11 girls and boys races from the club with Caitlin McCarrick and Ben Hughes continuing to place well in their respective races with Emily Hunter chasing down Caitlin.

Freya Burton ran in her first race and follows in her mothers footsteps in competing in cross country for the club.

A welcome return to racing for Glyn Denver and Adrian Fairhurst, both coming back to cross country after some time. The senior men had 3 teams in the race which shows the strength in depth of the club.

Once again Lynne Clough was in the top 10, finishing in sixth place, whilst Niki Rushton pushed Anna Maria Crabtree in a sprint at the end.
