CHORLEY’S batting woes reared their head again at Windsor Park on Saturday as they were beaten by Blackpool on another tough day at the office.

Andy Holdsworth put the seasiders in after winning the toss and Chorley were soon in the wickets as Gurmandeep Bains, Alex Smith, John Mounsey and Andy Furniss went cheaply but Blackpool professional Dale Deeb anchored the innings with what turned out to be a crucial 43 before his innings was ended by Iain Critchley.

The spinner went on to claim 3-30 and Chorley pro Gaurav Dhar also picked up three wickets as Blackpool posted 123-9 from their 50 overs.

Chorley were in all sorts of bother when Holdsworth, Adam Peacock, Stu Naden and Alex Weetman went for single figure scores. Will Moulton (14) and Iain Critchley (36) led the resistance while Michael Critchley faced 53 balls for six.

And in the end Richard Gleeson’s 6-23 was pivotal as Chorley slipped to 101 all out.

Darwen’s game at Morecambe was called off on Friday night with the Woodhill Lane pitch under water and little chance of it being fit despite the use of pumps, while reigning champions St Annes suffered more woe as they were beaten at Preston as they fell short despite chasing just 82.

Leaders Barrow thumped Fleetwood, while Netherfield went second after crushing Lancaster by 136 runs at Parkside Road.

Leyland beat Carnforth in the day’s other game.
