NAP happy Clitheroe took basement boys Cammell Laird apart to win in the Evo-Stik League First Division North for the first time in four games and put extra breathing space between themselves and the drop zone.

The hero of the day for the buoyant Blues was Ashley Parillon, who hit a 17-minute hat-trick to take the honours from a sterling display in tough conditions at Shawbridge.

Carl Garner’s men led 1-0 at the break after a tough battle in the first half as they battled hard into the teeth of a gale force win blowing down the ground – and they ran riot in the second period as Lairds finished with nine men.

Jack Higgins headed Clitheroe into the lead in the first period as the Blues soaked up anything Lairds could throw at them while looking dangerous on the break with Parillon twice going close.

And the game changed big style after the break as Clitheroe roared into life with the wind at their backs.

Parillon made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 66 minutes and added his second and Clitheroe’s third five minutes later.

He made it four on 83 minutes before Lee Pugh completed the rout three minutes from time.

Jack McGowan grabbed Cammell Laird’s consolation.
