Two athletes from Chorley have received a cash award for their contributions to sport.

The Rising Star Fund is helping Stuart Holden,15, and Alison Leonard,19, who have both been given £500.

Stuart, a badminton player and 800m runner Alison have already represented the UK in junior competitions but hope to go on and compete at higher levels.

The fund aims to provide athletes between the ages of 12-24 with grants to cover the costs of training and equipment.

The fund is supported by bakers Warburtons, Lancashire Sport and the Duchy of Lancashire and will be offering grants to more than 90 youngsters totalling £45,000.
