LANCASHIRE fear they may miss out on Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara – if a proposed Test series in India gets the green light.

The brilliant batsman was all set to link-up with the Red Rose at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup as a replacement for early season overseas man Ashwell Prince.

But now that deal is in doubt thanks to the possible three Test series, which is pencilled in to take place in July.

“Sangakarra is still on the cards at the moment,” said head coach Peter Moores. “If the potential series between India and Sri Lanka comes off we could be scuppered with him but as it stands we are monitoring the situation.

“If that series goes ahead we will have to decide if Sangakarra is still the right person for us. You don’t want to be swapping and changing your players, you don’t want the disruption to the team.

“But we are keeping an eye on the movement of players at the moment because the international schedules around the world now are pretty fluid.

“Ashwell could be an option for the whole season – but only if he does not get selected for South Africa’s tour to the West Indies and, to be honest, I can’t foresee him not being selected for that one.

“It could be an option that we start with Ashwell, he then goes and comes back after the West Indies.

“But ideally you would only have the one change of overseas player over the season. We will have to see what develops with Sangakkara.”
