Chorley boss still aiming for play-offs

Chorley welcome Woodley Sports to Victory Park tomorrow as they continue life without their former Preston North End and Rotherham star Martin Clark.

The former Magpies skipper has retired due to a series of knee injuries.

And manager Steve Waywell is refusing to give up the battle for a place in the promotion play-offs despite the setback of a third successive defeat - 5-1 at the hands of Leigh Genesis at the weekend.

“We have got to keep fighting and we’ve got to aim to win every game,” Waywell said.

“The match against Leigh was there to be won and we could have won, but too many of our players put in below-par performances.

“We made mistakes but still had enough chances to turn the game around. Leigh didn¹t have to work for their win.

“I can’t accept it when players chuck it in, and the fans also want to see 100 per cent effort.

“It was a big blow to lose our keeper Zac Hibbert, who dislocated a finger in training on Thursday. Zac hoped to be fit for Saturday’s game but we had to bring in young Jamie Scott.

"Zac had played the previous 22 games so his experience was missed.

“Now we need to get back on track and start winning again.

"Zac should be fit for weekend and we are hoping Tom Walker and Aiden Kirkbride are available again after their hamstring problems.”
