Chorley look for promotion push

CHORLEY manager Steve Waywell believes his side can mount a promotion push in 2010 as they face their first match in the calendar year tomorrow.

The Magpies entertain Garforth Town at Victory Park in their first competitive match in six weeks due to the recent big freeze.

During the freezing festive and new year period, Waywell maintained that his squad train at least twice a week to maintain their game sharpness.

And he hopes it pays off, with mid-table Chorley looking to bridge a 14-point gap on the UniBond Division One (North) play-offs.

“There’s still 21 games to go. There’s always one team every year that enjoys a great run in the second half of the season and I hope it’s us,” said Waywell.

“I was managing Hyde United when Barrow went from third from bottom to the play-offs, and eventually got promoted to the Conference. It can happen.”

Waywell added: “The bad weather and all the postponements have been frustrating, but everyone has been in the same boat.

“I’ve made sure the players have been training twice a week.

"They came in on New Years Day and I believe it’s important that the players see each other while there’s no games.”
