The wintry weather has not cooled the enthusiasm of the Chorley players, despite the frustration of being denied the chance to add to their two wins in two games.
Manager Steve Waywell, who is as anxious as his squad to get back to UniBond League action at Wakefield on Saturday, says the lads have worked really hard in training sessions over the enforced shutdown.
He has developed a bunch of football workaholics in his efforts to maintain the squad’s fitness levels.
“When matches are called off it’s very important to keep up the momentum,” he explained.
“The teams who are prepared to put in the work at these times are usually the ones who don¹t suffer when things get back to normal.
“My players have worked really hard in training and we have a great spirit at Chorley, so it will be up to us to put our preparations to good use and be in the best condition when we get back into match action.
“We’re only halfway through the league season and everybody¹s looking forward to fighting for points again.”
That certainly goes for former Liverpool, Wigan Athletic and Hyde United midfielder Aiden Kirkbride, eager to make his Chorley debut after signing from Prescot Cables.
“Aidy should be a good signing in a key department and he’s only recently turned 19,” said Steve.
While the Magpies haven’t dropped a point since November, they haven’t played for almost four weeks, the away games against Rossendale United on December 19 and Bamber Bridge (Boxing Day) and the New Year¹s Day Victory Park clash with Mossley all victims of the weather.
They at least ended the year and the decade on a high of two wins, so 2010 has plenty of opportunities to add to their recent achievements.
For the record, the team are 12th in the First Division North on 27 points, having won seven, drawn and lost eight, with 30 goals for and 41 against.
Chorley have taken 13 points from their last eight matches, winning four, drawing one and losing three.
They have scored 13 goals and conceded 15.
After the scheduled trip to Wakefield they entertain Clitheroe and Garforth, then travel to Skelmersdale and Bamber Bridge, the latter fixture rearranged for Tuesday, February 2.
Midfielder Simon Pendlebury has joined Atherton Collieries on loan and young goalkeeper Jamie Scott has gone on loan to Colne.
