Chorley have signed 19-year-old former Blackburn Rovers and England youth team goalkeeper Zak Jones who has made a big impression in the pre-season campaign.

Magpies manager Tony Hesketh, mindful of a loss of confidence that affected keeper Peter Collinge last season, said: “Zak is looking to rebuild his career after a spell injured while he was at Blackburn.

“Chorley now have two very good young keepers and they both understand the situation at the club. We are glad to have cover.”

Hesketh added that, as the UniBond League have introduced the three substitutes from five rule for this season, Chorley will be able to have a sub goalkeeper on the bench for league matches.

It was only two seasons ago that a hoodoo struck the Chorley goalkeeping position, with 16 players (13 who started and three who had to take over during games) wearing the jersey.
