NICK Dougherty’s poor showing in the Scottish Open has moved him outside an automatic place for the Ryder Cup team.

The Chorley golfer is now 11th in the European list - and only the top 10 qualify, with a further two places going to wild cards.

Graeme McDowell’s Scottish Open victory has moved him above Soren Hansen, Oliver Wilson, Henrik Stenson and Martin Kaymer into sixth place in the European Ryder Cup standings.

The top 10 who would earn places as things stand are Lee Westwood, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia, Robert Karlsson, Justin Rose, McDowell, Hansen, Wilson, Stenson and Kaymer.

Open champion Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald have been the favourites for Faldo’s two wild cards, but the wrist injury that has kept Donald out of action since the US Open and will do so for a few more weeks has obviously weakened his position.

Latest leading places in the European Ryder Cup tables after the Scottish Open (top five on world list on August 31 qualify, plus next five on European list. Captain Nick Faldo then adds two wild cards): European List 1 Westwood 2,129,163, 2 Jimenez 2,002,808, 3 Karlsson 1,996,232, 4 GRAEME McDOWELL 1,852,068, 5 SOREN HANSEN 1,328,157, 6 OLIVER WILSON 1,323,115, 7 HENRIK STENSON 1,321,712, 8 MARTIN KAYMER 1,305,447, 9 Rose 1,260,626, 10 Ross Fisher 1,226,019, 11 Nick Dougherty 1,032,337, 12 Soren Kjeldsen 1,027,117
