Tee off for charity golf

7:00am Sunday 6th July 2008

Former England and Blackpool football legend Jimmy Armfield is urging keen golfers to take part in a charity tournament later this month.

Mr Armfield, who chairs the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC), is inviting teams to take part in this organisation’s annual Charity Golf Day, taking place at Preston Golf Club in Fulwood Hall Lane, Fulwood.

The event, which is being sponsored by Ribby Hall Village, is on Friday, July 18, and businesses from across the county will take part in an 18-hole competition.

There will be morning, 10am to 11.30am, and afternoon, 1pm to 2.30pm, starting times with a complimentary welcome pack, breakfast or lunch at the golf club and refreshments available all day.

The day will be followed by a prize presentation evening dinner at the club with entertainment from the popular comedian Vince Earl.

There will be prizes for the top scoring three teams in the competition including the Ribby Hall Village Trophy for the overall winners and others such as nearest to the pin and longest drive on specified holes.

The cost for a team of four including the competition, breakfast or lunch and presentation dinner - including wine - is £275 plus VAT and all the proceeds from the day will be used to support community safety projects designed at making Lancashire a better and safer place to live and work.

Mr Armfield said: “This is a great competition on a great course and I am grateful to Ribby Hall Village for their sponsorship. The money raised really does make a difference in our local communities and we hope to hear from as many people as possible.’ An auction and raffle will take place during the evening and donations of any prizes are welcome as is sponsorship of the holes.
