Flitcroft focused on sealing promotion as Chorley head to Buxton
CHORLEY boss Garry Flitcroft says he will not need to motivate his players for their promotion decider at Buxton tomorrow.
The Magpies will secure a place in Conference North for next season if they win their final game of the season in Derbyshire.
Flitcroft’s side lead FC United by one point at the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division and know any slip up could force them into the play-offs, if their rivals win at Barwell.
Chorley were only a minute away from promotion on Easter Monday as they thrashed Marine 4-0 in front of a crowd of 2,128 at Victory Park.
FC United’s injury time winner against Ashton United took the promotion race to the last game of the season, after they had also bagged a late winner at Stamford two days earlier.
But Flitcroft says his Magpies players are fully focused on getting the job done at mid-table Buxton.
“We’ve had Buxton watched so we know all about them,” said the former Blackburn Rovers skipper.
“I’m going to make sure I get the lads prepared as best as I can to get a victory.
“Buxton have lost eight games at home, which is a lot, so their home form isn’t great.
“We’ve just got to go there and make sure we get the right result.
“We played great on Monday and scored four good goals. But full marks to FC United, they came back again.
“I don’t have to pump my lads up for this.
“They’ve worked so hard all season for where they need to be now and we’ll be ready for it.”
Chorley, who will check on the fitness of Max Cartwright (shin splints) and Jamie Vermiglio (hamstring) could be backed by close to 1,000 fans at The Silverlands.
Flitcroft said: “The got behind the lads really well and I hope we take those singers with us on Saturday.
“It spurs the lads on.”
