Chorley boss Flitcroft wants to keep winning habit
CHORLEY turn their attentions away from their double glory tilt tonight as they focus on another cup competition.
Garry Flitcroft’s men, who are pushing for promotion from the Evo-Stik League Premier Division and are also building up for their big FA Trophy third round tie at Tamworth on Saturday, face Witton Albion in their rearranged Doodson Sports Cup second round tie at Victory Park.
And while manager Garry Flitcroft admits the league cup tie is probably a game he could do without ahead of the weekend’s big trip, he still wants his Magpies to shine and aim for progress.
Flitcroft is likely to field a side much changed to his regular line-up for the clash but believes that winning is a good habit for everyone at the club.
“It is a game that we could probably do without to be honest,” admitted Flitcroft.
“But it is another game that we want to try to win. Winning is a good habit to have, although I might put a few young lads in but we want to keep the run going.”
Flitcroft is also hoping for a dry day ahead of the game with the Victory Park pitch currently in a testing state thanks to the recent weather.
“The condition of the pitch is difficult at the moment,” he added.
“It has been verti-drained but it is still very wet and if it had not been for the Preston groundsman coming in the other day, Saturday’s match with Grantham would have been off.”
Meanwhile, an army of supporters will cheer the Magpies on when they head to Tamworth on Saturday.
The last-16 tie sees Flitcroft’s men heading to The Lamb to face the Skrill Premier strugglers, who are stuck in the drop zone, and more than 300 fans will make the trip to the Midlands.
The Chorley FC Supporters’ Trust have sold out four coaches and are well on their way to filling a fifth for the big tie as fans start dreaming of a date beneath the arch of Wembley.
