Laura Massaro hopes of finishing the season on a high ended when she was beaten in the quarter finals of the Hong Kong Open.

The world number two from Chorley was aiming to reach her first Hong Kong Open final but succumbed to home favourite Annie Au.

The 12th seed has finished the season in top form and so it proved as she beat Massaro in four games, winning 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9 in 50 minutes.

The former Albany High School pupil had booked her place in the last eight with a routine 3-0 win against Australian Rachael Grinham where she beat the 13th seed 11-8, 11-7, 11-5.

Massaro, 30, had kicked off her Open with a first round victory over qualifier Coline Aumard of France 11-2, 11-8, 11-9.
