Chorley win 5-0 but lose ground on AFC Fylde

CHORLEY claimed a fine 5-0 win at Trafford – but actually lost ground on second-placed AFC Fylde on a remarkable night in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
The Magpies sit third in the table and closed the gap on leaders Skelmersdale United to one point after charging to victory at Trafford.
James Dean put Chorley ahead in the 20th minute and Kieran Walmsley doubled the lead 11 minutes after half time.
It was 3-0 when Darren Stephenson netted on the hour mark before Adam Roscoe netted and Simon Wiles added a fifth in the final minute of the game.
But Garry Flitcroft’s Magpies actually fell further behind on goal difference to second-placed Fylde, who incredibly won 10-0 at bottom club Droylsden. Burnley-born Pakistan international Adnan Ahmed was the captain of the struggling Droylsden side.
In First Division North, Clitheroe clinched a 3-1 triumph at home to Mossley.
Scott Bakkor put them ahead after only seven minutes and Clitheroe led 2-0 in the 27th minute when Ben Cartwright netted.
Andrew Keogh pulled a goal back five minutes before half time, but Daniel Smith sealed the home side’s win in the 90th minute.
Ramsbottom United’s home game against Ossett Albion was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Riverside.
Barnoldswick Town secured a 1-1 draw at St Helens Town in the North West Counties Premier Division. Andrew Gillespie put the home side ahead in the 11th minute but Kieran Lee levelled for Barlick three minutes before half time.
Colne triumphed 2-0 at Wigan Robin Park thanks to a Michael Woodvine goal in the 59th minute and Benjamin Bridson’s effort in the final minute.
AFC Darwen were unable to build on their shock Challenge Cup win over Colne on Saturday as they lost 4-0 at Holker Old Boys in the First Division.
