Chorley lose in finals

First published in Sport

A dramatic last ball incident saw Chorley slide to agonising defeat in the Lancs Cricket Board Indoor Sixes regional finals at Old Trafford.

Opponents Walshaw Sports needed two for victory from the last ball of the game, and with a single counting two in this form of the game, they only needed to complete the one run.

But Chris Harty shattered the stumps with a superb throw and Chorley looked to have clinched victory, only for the umpire to signal not out after a deliberation.

So the win went to the Bolton Association side, who therefore grabbed the runners-up spot with the title going to Bolton League side Egerton, who had defeated Chorley by 8 runs and then saw off Walshaw.

Egerton go on to face the winners of the Shropshire group in the next stage, while Chorley can feel proud of a great run. And there is no respite as the club’s winter sessions have begun on Mondays at 8pm at Albany High School.

Meanwhile the club’s under-14s have become indoor league champions and cup runners-up this winter.
