The club’s senior athletes had the joy of arriving at Witton Park, Blackburn to find their U11 juniors colleagues dancing in the car park having all won medals after securing a highly prized second team in the Lancashire cross-country championships.
The boys were led home by Ben Hughes in 9th place, Scott Gouldthorpe (17th) had a vest width margin on Luke Hunter (18th) both with the same times, Jack Hughes (25th), Henry Wilson (30th) and Cai Smith (33rd).
In the girls Caitlin McCarrick (11th) had a good race ahead of Emily Hunter (20th), Maddison Bretherton (25th), Charlotte Lavin(26th) and Emily Watson (31st). Daryl Peter, club chair, said: “These juniors have really learnt the lesson that working as a team and all turning up has gained them medals as the second best team in Lancashire.
“We are delighted for them and their parents and coaches.”
It was left to the Chorley senior men to provide a team and all the competing men ran particularly well with Adam Sciacca (36th) pushed by Michael Chalfont (41st) and Ryan Sciacca (70th). On Saturday, January 12 it is back to the domestic X-C league with the Mid Lancs event at Hyndburn followed the week after by the SE Lancs at Leigh Sports Village.
