CLITHEROE boss Paul Moore has added to the Shawbridge striking options as he aims to keep his Blues riding high in the Evo-Stik League First Division North.

Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Farsley saw Clitheroe move into second spot and they can cement that position tonight when third placed Skelmersdale United roll into town.

And they will have two new faces on display for the game after Moore swooped for former Morecambe man Danny Mahoney from Morecambe and ex-Leek Town, Witton and Warrington goal-getter Carl Rendell. That double swoop goes some way to compensating for the loss of Alex Johnson to Halifax Town and Moore said: “We will miss AJ, any team losing their main striker would but I believe that the two lads will give us that experience we need in the squad.”

Moore is hoping for a bumper crowd as former Blues boss Tommy Lawson makes a return to Shawbridge and added: “I am sure our fans will make the new guys really welcome.”

Ramsbottom United aim to put their FA Trophy misery to one side tonight and get back into the league groove as they look to make it six league wins on the spin.

The Rams were well off the pace on Saturday as they were sent packing from the Trophy by Stafford Rangers, who eased to a 3-0 second qualifying round win in the game at Marston Road.

That lacklustre showing was a total opposite to the Rams run of league form and their five-match winning run has seen them score 15 goals and concede just one on their way to fifth place in the table.

They host Warrington Town tonight, who are down in eighth spot. The Rams are still without skipper Andy Dawson.

In the Premier Division Chorley will attempt to do what Ramsbottom couldn’t as they head to Stafford knowing that a win could take them into second spot.

Barnoldswick Town are also in action as they travel to Harrogate Railway Athletic for a West Riding Senior County Cup second round tie.
