A football team in Adlington, a history society in Brindle and community allotments in Withnell are among a few local groups that have received grants from the Lancashire Local Committee.

Five grants adding up to over £1,500 were approved by the Lancashire Local Chorley committee recently.

County Councillor Mrs Pat Case, chair of the Lancashire Local Chorley, committee, said: “These local grants help community groups by providing them with funding towards their activities. A small amount of money can make a real difference to groups in our area and really benefits the local community.”

Withnell Fold School and Community Partnership received £350 from Councillor Case so they can buy a new shed! to house all the equipment needed to maintain the newly formed community allotment Councillor Case also gave £250 to Adlington Junior Football Club towards a football kit for the new under seven’s team, which provides an opportunity for local youngsters to participate in local team sports.

Another organisation to benefit was Heapey and Wheelton Village Hall. The grant of £350 was also made by Councillor Case. The money received will be used to provide a replacement cooker in the kitchen so the village hall can keep on hosting events which benefits the local community.

County Councillor Don Yates helped the DOSTI Chorley Men’s Forum with £400, so that they could purchase a laptop and develop a website for their group.

Brindle History Society received a grant of £190 from County Councillor Margaret Livesey to host a conference explaining the history of Brindle to local people, including them in local activities.

Each County Councillor has an annual budget of £1, 250 to spend on local grants that will help and improve the local community.
