Teen dog walker attacked in Cuerden Valley Park

A teenage boy was knocked unconscious during an unprovoked assault as he walked his dog through a park.

The incident took place between 11.30am and midday on Sunday, September 20 near to the Stag Heads Car Park at Cuerden Valley Park, off Wigan Road. The 16-year-old boy was walking his dog near to a pond when he has was approached from behind and struck on his head, resulting in him falling to floor and being knocked unconscious.

He was found lying on the path by a member of the public and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated for a cut lip, bump to head and tender jaw.

He has now recovered but was said to be very distressed by the attack.

PC Paula Farrow said: “The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage but this is a serious and completely unprovoked assault and we need the public’s help to find the person responsible.

“This area is popular with dog walkers, particularly on a Sunday so I would appeal to anybody that thinks they may have witnessed this assault or anyone that saw any suspicious activity in and around that area and that time to contact me at Lancashire Police on 101.”
