A woman who shed almost eight stone so she would be able to play games with her young son has been named as a slimmer of the year.
Shauni Taylor, 21, from Clayton-le-Woods has been named the star of 2012 at the St Bede’s Social Centre, Slimming World Group, Clayton-le-Woods.
Life was very different for Shauni, who has a three-year-old son, Layton, 18 months ago.
Her relationship had broken up and she was very unhappy with her size and had taken to cutting out the labels in her clothes so no-one would know she was a size 24 and had a 56in waist.
She said: “I was really nervous the first time I went to the group, I was embarrassed about how big I was and I thought everyone would judge me for being overweight at such a young age.
“But nothing could be further from the truth.”
Shauni has dropping from 18st 10.5lb st to around 11st and she now proudly tells everyone she is a size 12.
“I love being able to wear the same clothes as my friends and enjoy going out with them more now,” she said.
“I’ve a lot more energy to play with Layton and can play a whole game of football with him whereas before I could only manage about five minutes before getting really out of breath.
“I just love being able to do ‘normal’ things with him since losing weight.”
Carol Mawbey who runs the Group, says: “Everyone in the Clayton-le-Woods Group is so proud of Shauni.
“She’s a huge inspiration to everyone.”
